In just under two-and-a-half months since officially launching the Unite For The Cure campaign, the 23 Uniter families across the United States and Canada have already collectively raised over $50,000 from more than 600 unique donors for Families of SMA, specifically earmarked for Dr. Keirstead’s promising SMA stem cell program. This is an amazing accomplishment in such a short period of time and under such unfathomable personal circumstances, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from such an inspirational group of families.
“This is an amazing achievement!”, says Kenneth Hobby, President of Families of SMA. “Thank you all for the fantastic dedication and imagination that you are putting into this campaign. This is what our community is all about — coming together and showing that collectively we truly have the power to reach our ultimate goal. Each and every dollar counts and is so important.”
So, how have they done it?
These Uniters have done everything from letter writing campaigns to community events. They have organized and executed bake sales, casino nights, silent auctions, and drink-a-thons (yes, drink-a-thons). They have had restaurant benefits, raffles, and Mary Kay fundraisers. They have pushed themselves with weight loss challenges and by asking for help from their friends and family. Their friends put together spinning classes, photography benefits, and bowling events. They got local businesses involved and even large corporations. They created annual events such as marches, walks and parties. These incredibly motivated families have turned just about anything into an opportunity to increase awareness and raise funds and their tenacity has paid off.
We are so proud of each and every one of these families and are honored to be fighting alongside one another towards our goal of collectively raising $100,000 for Families of SMA to accelerate Dr. Keirstead’s groundbreaking program. Keep up the amazing work!
